Integration with Kaltura MediaSpace (KMS) Follow
Overview
Kaltura Media Space (KMS)
Kaltura Media Space (KMS) is a Kaltura product that provides video needs for organizations, commonly education, enterprise, and media.
In contrast to the Kaltura Media Console (KMC), which is primarily used by admins and content moderators, Kaltura Media Space is where Kaltura end users; such as professors, students, and staff, interact with their Kaltura system.
VERBIT-KMS INTEGRATION
Verbit’s integration with KMS aims to improve the caption request process for both end users and admin.
The Verbit-KMS Integration is an extension of the Verbit-KMC Integration. Therefore, it requires setting up the Verbit-KMC integration first.
By enabling the integration with KMS, KMS users will be able to initiate caption requests from their KMS instance.
NOTE : The KMS integration is an extension of the existing Verbit-KMC integration. This means the setup procedures for Verbit-KMC will still apply.
Setup
Linking KMC to VERBIT
To complete the integration, the Verbit admin should set up the Kaltura Integration on the Verbit platform.
NOTE : As the setup will require getting the Kaltura account’s keys which is only accessible to the Kaltura admin, it is highly recommended the user who will be doing the setup must have admin-level privileges (or higher) on both platforms.
To set up the KMS integration
- From the Home page, go to Admin > Linked Accounts
- In the Available Connections area, choose Kaltura
- In the Connection to Kaltura dialog box, fill out the following:
- Partner ID
This can be obtained in Kaltura Integration Settings - Administrator Secret

Enabling the KMS Integration
To set up the KMS integration:
- From the Home page, go to Admin > Linked Accounts
- In the Connected Accounts area, choose Kaltura
- In the Connection to Kaltura dialog box, click EDIT
- In the Edit Kaltura Connection window:
- Click TEST AND CONNECT
Once connected, the integration will create three new subcategories in the selected Media Space parent category, namely:
- Order captions
- Captioning in Progress
- Captions Completed
The KMS integration uses MediaSpace > Site > Channels as the default category if there is no custom category selected
Ordering
Ordering Caption from KMS
Ordering captions will only work on “published” content.
To order for captions through KMS:
- Log in to your Kaltura MediaSpace page
- Go to My Media
- Select all the videos you want to have captioned
- Click ACTIONS > PUBLISH
- In the Publishing Status area, choose PUBLISHED
This will reveal the Publish in Category and Publish in Channel tabs - Depending on whether a custom Media Space/KAF root category is set in the Verbit-KMC integration:
- If there is no root category set:
- Go to the Publish in Channel tab
- Choose Order Captions
- If there is a custom root category set:
- Go to the Publish in Category tab
- Search for the root category
- Choose Order Captions
- If there is no root category set:
- Click SAVE
At this point, the caption request will be forwarded to the Kaltura admin for review and approval.
Moving Captioning Requests to VERBIT
Media files sent for captioning will have the Order Captions category.
These requests can then be managed by the Kaltura admin in KMC.
To push a caption request to Verbit:
- Login to KMC
- In Entries, choose the media files
- Click More Actions > Add/Remove Categories > Add to Category
- In the Select Categories pop-up, choose Verbit
- Choose the caption profile to use
- Click APPLY
NOTE : Alternatively, you can open the entry and add the relevant Verbit category in the entry’s metadata (see screenshot below)
Once done, the entry will be forwarded to Verbit for captioning.
Monitoring
Checking Order Status
The Verbit-Kaltura integration supports sending real-time status updates back to Kaltura, which is presented in the entry details in KMC and media details in KMS. The order status will be visible to the admins (in KMC) and the end users (in KMS).
