FTP Integration Follow
Contents
Overview
The Verbit-FTP integration builds a 2-way channel between your Verbit and FTP accounts, which provides a more efficient means to initiate transcriptioning/captionings requests and to get the final output. This linked account integration will allow you to upload media files to your FTP folders, automatically submitting media files to be processed in Verbit, and receive the transcripts or captions via those FTP folders as well.
This integration supports:
- Manual upload of media files from an FTP account to Verbit
- Automatic upload of media files from an FTP folder to Verbit
- Manual export of finished jobs from Verbit to the same FTP account the media files were uploaded from
- Automatic export of media files from Verbit to the same FTP account the media files were uploaded from
Integration Setup and Management
Requirements
User-Level Permission
Setting up the integration will require user permissions as either owner account, account admin, or content manager.
- Verbit accounts admins and content manager have access to the integration setup. Actual usage of the integration; such as uploading media files or exporting the captions, can be done by non-admin users with accordance with the upload permissions defined for the specific linked account connection.
- User access for the 3rd party platform; in this case, the FTP server, will typically require admin or owner-level permissions.
Media-Level Permission
Folder and file-level permissions should be configured to allow a captioning service provider access to the relevant media files.
Adding a New FTP Account
Step 1. In the Verbit dashboard, go to Admin > Linked Accounts or Linked Accounts for Content Manager access.

Uploading Media Files from the FTP Account
This is currently not natively supported by the Verbit-FTP Integration.
If the linked platform has a built-in capability to request captioning from a 3rd-party provider, then you can build that function using our public API.
See Verbit API.
Exporting the Finished Captions Back to the FTP Account
Step 1. In the Verbit dashboard, search for the finished job using the filename. Click the filename to open it.
Step 2. In the job page, click Download > Export. The Export window will display general information about the export.
Step 3. Click Export.
Automations
The Verbit-FTP integration supports 2-way automation; that is, it can support automatic upload from and automatic export back to the FTP instance.
This automation will not fetch files with the same name, preventing duplication of jobs for the same media content.
Pre-Automation Preparations
These steps are optional, but relevant if you intend to automate your transcriptioning/captioning flow.
Step 1. Login to your FTP account.
Step 2. Create twofolders.
- The first folder is where you would upload the media files for captioning (e.g. source folder).
- The second folder is where completed transcripts or captions will be delivered. (e.g destination folder)
NOTE: Only the source folder is a requirement for automation. If the destination folder is empty, then finished transcripts will appear in the source folder.
Configuring the Automatic Upload/Export
Step 1. In the Verbit dashboard, go to Admin > Linked Accounts.
Step 2. In the Connected Accounts section, choose FTP.
Step 3. Find the FTP account you need to edit, then click the 3-dot menu button and select Edit Settings.
Step 4. In the FTP Settings window, configure the following:
- Source Folder. Files added to this folder will be uploaded automatically to Verbit.
- Destination Folder. Finished transcripts will appear in this folder. If you leave this empty, then finished transcripts will appear in the source folder.
- Language. Choose the language of the media files.
- Profile. This job setting will dictate the workflow to apply on the job, the turnaround time, the pricing, and more.
- Export Format. The file format of the finished jobs when sent back to the linked folder. It could be plain text, .pdf, or .docx for transcripts or .srt, .vtt, or .sami for captions.
- Labels(optional). Automatically add a label of your choice to all media files uploaded using this connection. i.e. from_myftpconnection
Steps 5. Click Test and Connect.
